Illinois Extension Launches Fall Family Life Programs to Support Health, Wellness, and Connection

This fall, Illinois Extension is offering a powerful lineup of Family Life programs designed to support personal growth, manage chronic conditions, promote brain health, and foster community connection. From writing workshops to dementia awareness and chronic pain support, these programs are free, accessible, and open to adults across Henderson, McDonough, Warren, and Knox Counties.

📖 Share Your Life Story: A Writing Workshop Begins October 1, 2025, | Henderson County Health Department Mondays & Wednesdays through November 10 1:00–2:00 PM (Mon) | 11:00 AM–12:00 PM (Wed) This seven-session workshop invites participants to reflect, write, and share meaningful life moments in a warm, supportive setting. No writing experience needed—just a willingness to explore your story.

💪 Take Charge of Your Health: Chronic Pain Self-Management Class Begins October 2, 2025, | Online | 1:00–3:30 PM CDT This six-week virtual course helps individuals living with chronic pain—such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, or back pain—learn practical strategies to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Led by trained facilitators who understand the journey firsthand.

🧩 Dementia Friends Informational Session October 3, 2025, | Stronghurst Senior Center | 10:30–11:30 AM Learn what dementia is, how it affects individuals and families, and how small actions can make a big difference. Led by Dementia Friends Champion Tessa Hobbs-Curley, this session is part of a global movement to change the way we think and talk about dementia.

🧠 Wits Fitness: Brain Exercise Class Stronghurst Senior Center | Fridays from 10:30–11:30 AM Dates: November 7, December 12, February 6, March 13 Join Family Life Educator Tessa Hobbs-Curley for interactive activities that help maintain and enhance cognitive function and memory. Open to all ages—because it’s never too early or too late to train your brain!
