A young Peoria mother says OSF OnCall digital health has become a lifeline, helping her navigate school, motherhood and several high-risk pregnancies.
For 21-year-old Mahogany ThomasVenney, life is a juggling act — four young children, classes, and limited transportation. But she says one constant has kept her steady: OSF OnCall.
“It’s really like they’ve just been an extra family for me, like, you know, everything I needed, especially with support, just mentally, physically, they’ve been there.”
Mahogany first connected with OSF as a pregnant teenager. Since then, she’s relied on OSF OnCall digital health navigators for emotional support and practical help — from figuring out insurance, to arranging rides, to finding childcare.
That support has followed her through four complicated pregnancies. And now, she says the newest tool — the OSF OnCall mobile care van — is a game changer.
The fully equipped medical unit brings prenatal and postpartum care right to her home, offering blood pressure checks, lab work, even ultrasounds.
“The coolest part to me was the sonogram. I got a sonogram off of here. That is amazing to me. It’s a doctor’s office literally just with wheels. So, yes, everything is the same, it’s the same as the doctor’s but it’s more convenient for the ones who can’t get to the doctors.”
Mahogony’s message to other pregnant women: don’t wait to ask for help — it’s there.
The medical van service and digital support is available for women on Medicaid who live in Bureau, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, Marshall, Stark, Tazewell, Livingston, Peoria, Putnam, Woodford and Warren counties. The digital health support is also an option for OSF HealthCare Mission Partners (employees) as well as pregnant women in the Illinois River Valley region of Illinois, which has lost numerous OB/GYN providers.
