Across the state, county fair queens are preparing to take the stage for the opportunity to compete for the Illinois State County Fair Queen title. Representing Warren County will be 21-year-old Malia Killey of Roseville.

As Miss Warren County Fair Queen, Killey has remained active in many community events and programs, especially the Ag in the Classroom program.

“I remember when I was Junior Miss, my queen, Madison Ballard, talked about how important Ag in the Classroom was. And of course, when I was in school, I was also taught by Mrs. Sharp, who was the Ag in the Classroom coordinator,” shares Killey. “So I emailed her and told her that I’d love to be involved in any way I could. Over the course of this first semester, I have gone in every single month to classrooms from kindergarten through eighth grade. I’ve had the opportunity to teach lessons ranging from simply looking at and touching a pumpkin all the way up to microbial life in the soil.”

The Miss Illinois Fair Queen pageant will kick off on Friday, January 16, with the interview portion, followed by the preliminary round on Saturday.
