John C. Adkisson, 87, of Roseville, passed away at 2:35 a.m. January 8, 2026 at the Goldwater Care Center of Roseville. He was born July 31, 1938 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Max and Madeline (Rankin) Adkisson. He was raised and educated in Roseville, graduating from Roseville High School in 1956.

John served in the National Guard for several years.

He married Mary Ellen Shughart on September 30, 1962, and she preceded him in death on September 28, 2020. Shortly after their marriage John and Ellen moved their first home from rural Roseville into town and fixed it up.

Those left to cherish his memory are son, Sam Adkisson; grandsons, Joe (Jessi), Jon and James; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Oakli; siblings, Susan (Jan) VanArsdale and Tom Adkisson; nephews, Brian VanArsdale and Max Adkisson and niece, Jonna VanArsdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Jean Adkisson.

John began working at the Phillips 66 gas station in Roseville part-time as a teenager. He continued as a full-time employee and later became owner/operator until he retired. He always had Pepsi available for himself and his customers.

He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Roseville Fire Department. He was promoted to fire chief and served in that capacity for many years.

He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons. He was known for his willingness to help anyone regardless of their ability to pay. He did snow removal for the community for many years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded with a Celebration of John’s life to be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Roseville Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roseville Fire Department or Roseville Ambulance and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home, Roseville, is handling the arrangements.
