Noel Eric Gash, known affectionately as Eric to his family and friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 63 on January 6, 2026, in his lifelong hometown of Galesburg. Born on December 29, 1962, to Tony I. and Marilynn L. (Harvey) Gash, Eric’s warmth and kindness touched the lives of many throughout his memorable journey.

A proud graduate of Galesburg High School in 1982, Eric began his professional life at Aldi’s Grocery Store, where his friendly demeanor quickly made him a favorite among customers and colleagues alike. His career path later led him to the City of Galesburg’s Central Garage, where he took great pride in maintaining the city’s vehicles. Eric eventually found his calling in the halls of Cottage Hospital, dedicating himself to housekeeping until the hospital’s closure. His commitment to his work was surpassed only by the love and care he showed to everyone he encountered.

Eric’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. His melodious voice graced the church choir, uplifting the spirits of the congregation with each performance. Beyond his spiritual contributions, Eric was an ardent lover of jazz music. His talent with the trumpet was surpassed only by his passion for collecting and sharing music with others. Photography was another of Eric’s joys, capturing the beauty of life’s moments through his lens.

As a sports enthusiast, Eric’s loyalty to the Chicago Bears and Cubs knew no bounds. He celebrated their triumphs and stood by them in their trials, his enthusiasm for his teams as enduring as his optimistic nature.

Eric leaves behind a legacy of love and thoughtfulness, characteristics that defined his very essence. His siblings, Karen (Thomas) Beacham of Douglasville, Georgia, Antonya Gash of San Antonio, Texas, Yul Brian (Susie) Gash of Austell, Georgia and Ty (Sadel) Gash of Galesburg, will hold dear the memories of their beloved brother. His nieces and nephews, Felecia Beacham, Kevin Beacham, Tiffany (Leon) Moore, Jennifer (Tehrae) Heflin, Brandon (Tania) Gash, Stephanie (Kenya) Harris, Kameil Gash, Ashley (Joseph Hall) Gash, Montgomery Gash, and Isabella Gash, will forever cherish the moments shared with their kind and loving uncle. Eric was preceded in death by his dear parents and his brother, Guy Gash.

Eric’s final wishes were to be cremated, a testament to his practical and unassuming nature. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is honored to assist his family with the arrangements. Those wishing to honor Eric’s memory are welcome to share their thoughts and condolences at www.h-p-w.com. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

In life, Eric was a beacon of friendliness, love, and thoughtfulness. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire kindness and joy in the hearts of his loved ones.
