Each year, Illinois 4-H recognizes clubs that demonstrate a strong commitment to service, with an emphasis on youth leadership in planning and carrying out their projects. Among the clubs honored with the Community Service Club Award was the Rio Livestock 4-H Club of Knox County, shares Extension’s Wendy Ferguson.
“They set a goal at the beginning of the 4-H calendar year to complete at least one service project and participate in county service projects and activities,” Ferguson explains. “They bought gifts through the Angel Tree program and prepared Christmas baskets for Boots and Blessings. They wrote thank-you cards and spruced up the ‘Welcome to Rio’ signs. They are also very involved in the 4-H diaper drive—they are always one of the top contributors. And they participated in the fairground cleanup as well.”
