Mrs. JoAnne R. Purl, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 11:56 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born June 17, 1934, in Oak Park, to Walter and Fern (Philpott) Krebs. She married Richmon S. Purl on May 17, 1954, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2017.

JoAnne is survived by three sons, Stephen (and Donna) Purl of Princeton, Illinois, Timothy (and Julie) Purl of Galesburg, and Douglas Purl of Wataga, Illinois; one daughter, JoElla “Lisa” (and Dave) Bernhart of Galesburg; one brother, Michael Krebs of Washington; eleven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Krebs and Terrence Krebs, and a great grandson, Ryder Halouska.

JoAnne graduated from Oak Park High School in 1952 and later that fall attended nursing training at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. After the birth of her children, she devoted herself fully to her home and family.

Over the years, she attended several churches and was especially devoted to the teachings of Les Feldick Ministries for more than ten years. Her desire was to “walk the walk and talk the talk.” She loved good old gospel music, tending to her garden, crocheting, and faithfully clipping and saving coupons. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Whenever she was told, “I love you,” her treasured reply was, “I love you more.”

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, at Babbitt Cemetery. David Scholl will officiate. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
