Joyce “Sherri” Williams, 67, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

Born on January 2, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, Sherri was the cherished daughter of James and Earnestine (Starks) Mitchell. She carried with her the strength, grace, and resilience that would define her life. Sherri married David Wayne Williams, Sr.; though their marriage later ended, their connection never did. They remained friends, a testament to the deep respect and enduring care they shared.

Sherri’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving mother to Takeyshia (Steiner) Watson of Evergreen, Illinois, David Wayne (Starelett) Williams, Jr. of Killeen, Texas, Domonic (Rahshid) Williams of Oak Lawn, Illinois, and Percy (Sharnae) Jackson of Galesburg. Her love only grew with the addition of her eleven treasured grandchildren—Alayna, Daniel, Jasmine, Cameron, David, Trinity, Jeremy, Jakari, DaVaughn, Ahmari, and Chantiara—each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She also leaves behind her siblings, Tony Ross of Chicago, Janine Williams of Indiana, and Jamie (Terri) Mitchell of Chicago, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever hold her memory close. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, David Watson, Sr.

Sherri graduated from William Rainey Harper High School in Chicago and continued her education at Kennedy King Community College, where she earned her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her caring spirit led her to work in various medical facilities, where she compassionately served others, always offering comfort, kindness, and a warm smile to those in need.

A woman of deep faith, Sherri was a devoted member of Radiant Worship Center. She brought not only her faith, but also her vibrant personality and unmistakable sense of style to every service. Sherri was known for her elegance—always dressed to impress—and for her joyful presence that could light up any room. She had a love for capturing life’s special moments through photography, preserving memories that her family will now treasure even more dearly. Within the church, she was an active member of the Women’s Group, lovingly and humorously known as the “Wild Heffers,” where she formed cherished friendships and shared countless moments of laughter and fellowship.

Sherri lived her life with grace, strength, and a flair that was uniquely her own. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering devotion to her family, her strong faith, and the beauty she brought into the lives of those around her.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Radiant Worship Center, with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at the church, officiated by Pastor Mark Dexter. Sherri will be laid to rest at East Linwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family to establish an education fund for her grandchildren.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
