At approximately 10:01 a.m. on May 15, 2026, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 441 N. Broad St.
The response included all three fire stations and 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and flames visible from a two-story residential structure. All occupants were alerted to the fire and able to self evacuate prior to fire department arrival.
Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett established command. The Fremont Station fire crew pulled a hose line and initiated fire attack on the rear of the structure before making entry. The Central Station fire crew made entry through the front of the residence to conduct a search. The Brooks Station fire crew pulled a second hose line for fire attack.
Due to structural concerns following a partial roof collapse, personnel evacuated the residence and defensive operations began. Personnel on scene used multiple hose lines and an aerial ladder to contain the fire and protect nearby homes. No injuries to fire personnel or occupants were reported.
An emergency callback of off-duty personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. The American Red Cross responded to assist displaced residents. Ameren assisted on scene, securing utilities to the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Galesburg Fire Department Investigators.
