Monmouth-Roseville Titan Baseball Claims Second Regional Title in Consolidation History

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans win their first regional since 2007 after defeating the Rock Island Alleman Pioneers 4-2 in the class 2A championship game at Princeton High School on Saturday. Monmouth-Roseville lost a regional title game on the same field in 2024, falling to Rockridge 7-2. Coming off an upset win over Spring Valley Hall in the semifinals on Thursday night, the Titans took that momentum into the title game, scoring two runs in their first at-bat on Saturday. Nick Huston single home Andrew Way for the first Monmouth-Roseville run. Huston would later score on an rbi groundout by Tyler Carlson. Alleman responded with a solo run in the bottom of the 2nd but the Titans would answer in the next inning with a Tyler Carlson rbi single scoring Huston. Monmouth-Roseville would score an important insurance run in the top of the 7th on an Elijah Noel sacrifice fly bring Kane Johnson home for a 4-1 lead. Alleman would mount a comeback in the bottom of the 7th but a line out ended the game and the season for the Pioneers. Titan starting pitcher Clay Casteel goes the distance, scattering six hits, giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts to get the win. Carlson, Huston, Way and Landyn Angelo each get three hits to lead the Titan offense.

After starting the season (4-10), Monmouth-Roseville improves to (16-15) and will move on to the sectional tournament at IVC High School in Chillicothe. They will take on the winner of Illini West and Macomb on Wednesday at around 6:30. It will be the second semifinal of the day. The first semi has (29-7) Rockridge taking on (30-5) Brimfield/Elmwood. Rockridge had no trouble with IVC in the Mercer County regional, winning 13-3. Brimfield/Elmwood knocked off Peoria Christian 7-1 in the Farmington regional championship.
