Warren County pond owners should be on the lookout for the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District’s fish sale. Resource Conservationist shares that order forms will be mailed out soon, with pickup and deliveries scheduled for October.
“A lot of farm ponds are used just for recreational fishing. So, if you’re taking out any fish population and want to restock it for fishing, that’s one reason to purchase fish,” says Sheehan. “But some fish species are actually really beneficial if you’re having algae blooms or other vegetation issues on your pond. For example, a lot of people like to stock grass carp to help control excessive aquatic vegetation. Also, if you let nature take its course and one species starts to overpopulate, you can purchase a larger predatory species to help balance the population.”
The Conservation District will also host a tree and mum sale this fall.
