Local veterinarian, Dr. John Schar, was recently inducted into the 2026 Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame, recognizing his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to not only the area youth, but agriculture in Henderson County. Dr. Schar has been an important part of the local agricultural community since 1987:

“I grew up in Stronghurst, Illinois and went to the University of Illinois for my vet school. Graduated in 1987 and started in a practice in Roseville, the Roseville Vet Clinic. I was there from 1987 to 2003. I had met my wife and had a couple kids and we decided we wanted to start our own practice on our home farm where I grew up,” shares Dr. Schar.

“I was in 4-H for a few years and after I graduated from vet school, they asked me to be the county veterinarian for the fair to check in all the animals when they come in and look at their health papers,” Dr. Schar adds.

Dr. Schar is the owner of Schar’s Veterinary Clinic in Stronghurst.
