Mr. Christopher D. “Chris” Cooley, 55, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at 5:58 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at his home.
Chris was born on April 9, 1971, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of David A. and Cheryl L. (McCants) Cooley. He married Kelli Wilson.
Chris is survived by two daughters, Krista Cooley and Caitlin Cooley, both of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Isabella Cooley and Raymond Thomas “RT” Cooley, both of Galesburg; his parents, David A. Cooley of Galesburg and Cheryl L. Cooley of Montogomery, Illinois; and a sister, Kimberly E. (Erik) Beckwell of Plano, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Chris attended Galesburg-area schools. He worked for Munson Pools for over 20 years before his illness. He enjoyed drag racing and traveled around the country multiple times to attend races. He was also a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Cubs, and Illinois basketball. His other interests included fishing and ATVs. Above all, Chris cherished spending time with his children and enjoyed the comfort of his home.
In accordance with Chris’s wishes, cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
