Mrs. Rose Mejia Stockman, 90, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 9, 2026, surrounded by family she loved deeply.
Rose was born on January 25, 1936, in Galesburg, the beloved daughter of Jose and Luciana (Alvarez) Mejia. On August 13, 1960, she married the love of her life, Roger Lewis Stockman, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. Together they shared 66 beautiful years of marriage, side by side in love, faith, and hard work.
Rose is survived by her devoted husband, Roger; her two cherished daughters, Rosanne Block of Gilson, Illinois, and Roxanne (Andy) Beversdorf of Wichita, Kansas; seven adored grandchildren; and twelve precious great-grandchildren. She was a grandmother whose love knew no bounds—gentle, constant, and full of joy. She is preceded in death by her three sisters and one brother.
Rose was a graduate of Galesburg High School and Burlington Beauty Academy, where she became a master stylist. She later earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Western Illinois University, reflecting a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and a deep love of teaching and education. In 1960, she opened her first salon, Prim Rose Beauty Salon, which she and Roger lovingly owned and operated for 66 years and remains open to this day. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she taught cosmetology, and she also served the state of Illinois as a State Licensed Inspector and State Board Examiner.
Rose treasured the simple act of giving to others and was passionate about entertaining and hosting friends and family.
Rose was a faithful and devoted follower of Christ and a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. There, surrounded by family, she celebrated the sacred moments of life—holidays, baptisms, and marriage blessings—with deep love and gratitude.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hinchcliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Corpus Christi Church—the same sacred place where Rose and Roger began their life together. Burial will follow in Knoxville Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and Adoration Chapel in loving memory of Rose. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
