Mr. Paul E. Gillaspie, 72, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 12:38 am on Thursday, July 1, 2021, in Burlington, Iowa.

Paul was born on August 10, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, as the son of Clair F. and Sylvia (Huss) Gillaspie.  He later married Pamela Winkler on February 29, 2016, in Galesburg, Illinois.  The two of them were dating for quite some time and had a loving relationship. Pamela passed away on February 14, 2020.

He is survived by his sister Donna Olson of Burlington, Iowa, his 4 nephews: James (Tara) Manuel of Scottsdale, Arizona, Matthew Meyer of Burlington, Michael (Stacey) Meyer of Burlington, and Douglas Abney Jr. of Burlington.  He is also survived by his 4 nieces: Patty (Kevin) French of Burlington, Lori (LeRoy) Burgess of Burlington, Kristine (Terry) Potts of Osage Beach, Missouri, and Kelly (Donny) Walker of Burlington.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Sylvia Gillaspie, his spouse, Pamela Winkler, his brother, Bill Gillaspie, and his two sisters, Caroline Johnson, and Janet Abney.

Paul served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970.

Paul graduated from Burlington High School by obtaining his GED.  He started working as a welder in 1968 and later worked for Butler Manufacturing for 11 years.  He was also a truck driver for many years.  Paul enjoyed spending time with his wife and their cats and also had the hobby of riding motorcycles during his free time.

Paul’s wishes were to be cremated. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Alexis Cemetery with Military Honors. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Knox Pet Clinic or Knox Country Humane Society.
