Sandra Kay Busch

Sandra Kay Busch peacefully passed away at her home on June 1, 2022, at the age of 72. Our dear mother, sister, aunt, and friend fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born to Robert Guy Thurman and Margaret Josephine Kruse on July 28, 1949. Kay was the youngest of three girls. Her love for her family was unmatched until she became a mother herself and her son, Patrick Busch, captured her heart forever.

After graduating from high school, Kay started a nearly 40-year career in the telecommunications industry as a teller at the Intra-State Telephone Company in Galesburg. She retired as the business office manager for CenturyLink in 2007.

Kay loved to shop and proved that she could deal with anything if she had the right pair of shoes! Kay was blessed with many talents and used them generously to help those around her often through a kind note, delicious cookies, or a thoughtful, handmade gift. She was a wonderful example of Christlike service and love that extended far beyond her family.

Kay was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many capacities. For more than 25 years, Kay worked with children and loved every minute! She blessed the lives of hundreds of boys and girls as their teacher, mentor, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Connie Dennis. She is survived by her son, Patrick Busch; her sister, Barbara Ann Thurman Zinn; and 10 nieces and nephews, who will continue to honor her legacy by faithfully living their lives to the fullest.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services (1070 West Fremont Street, Galesburg, Illinois). A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1977 East Fremont Street, Galesburg, Illinois). Burial will follow the service in East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center on her behalf. Online condolences may be made on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
