Mary Ellen Lydic, 64, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home, Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 7:45 a.m.
Mary was born November 22, 1958 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence James and Dorothy Ruth (Landon) Roberts. After graduating from Abingdon High School, Mary went to work for Frank Seben State Farm. Mary went on to work in the office at Wal-Mart for 26 years. She then worked at Abingdon Pottery until its closure. She then returned to Wal-Mart, eventually retiring in 2019.
Mary married Shannon Kilpatrick. Together they had two children. She later married Ron Lydic. They eventually divorced. Mary is survived by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Roberts of East Galesburg, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Kian Kilpatrick of Brunswick, Ohio, Devontre Campbell, TaShawn Campbell, Kolten Campbell, Kholby Kilpatrick, Shannley Kilpatrick, and Abigail Kilpatrick all of Galesburg; and one brother, Jim (Linda) Roberts of Erie, Illinois. Mary was preceded in death by her two children, Jaymie Kilpatrick on May 30, 2021 and Josh Kilpatrick on February 16, 2022; a brother, Matthew Roberts on February 14, 1992; three aunts; and her fiancé, Edward Stevens on October 2, 2022.
Mary always put family first. She was always doing whatever she could to help them and care for them. She enjoyed her morning ritual of coffee and playing solitaire. Mary was also an avid reader and liked to play word puzzles. She enjoyed get togethers with the Wal-Mart retirees. Mary will be remembered for her loving kind heart and her friendly and gentle smile.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at the funeral home. Pastor Tom Smith will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following services.
