The United Red Storm girls golf team won their first regional in program history on Tuesday. United shot a team score of 370, which was 14 strokes better than their LTC counterparts Ridgewood and 25 strokes better than Rockridge. The win over Rockridge was sweet revenge after losing to the Rockets by one stroke, four times in 2023. One of those defeats kept the Red Storm from qualifying for last season’s state finals. United returned all 9 golfers from last year’s squad and and high expectations for 2024, from themselves and the Red Storm fans. They have exceeded those expectations, and then some. The Red Storm girls have won all but one tournament they’ve entered. The one loss came in the Macomb Invitational by 16 strokes to private school Quincy Notre Dame. This, despite shooting their season-best 18-hole team score of 337. United was undefeated in meets other than tournaments and won the LTC championship tournament for the 4th straight season.

United head coach Ron Grant visited the WRAM Morning Show on Thursday morning and said his girls are ready to take the next step and get the entire squad qualify for the 1A State Finals.

The Red Storm girls golfers head to the El Paso Sectional on Monday at the El Paso Golf Club. A top-3 finish as a team there would send them to the 1a state finals in Decatur next weekend.
