Mrs. Marilyn Ann Bednar, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois died 12:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born February 7, 1936, in Billings, Montana to Frank Joseph and Mary Pauline (Schreiber) Stief.  She married Charles J. Bednar, Jr. on November 21, 1962, in Pasadena, California.  He preceded her in death on September 18, 2018.

Surviving is her daughter, Melissa Bednar of Galesburg, two grandsons, Robert (and Caroline) Bracken of Bloomington, Illinois and Charles Bracken of Galesburg, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald Joseph Stief. 

Marilyn graduated from Joliet High School in Montana in 1954.  She was a bookkeeper for over 30 years for several companies in California and Chicago, Illinois.  She retired from the Oak Park and River Forest Tennis and Fitness Center.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg.  She was also a member of the Galesburg Newcomer’s Club.  She was a member of a singing group in Oak Park called “The Profiles”.  Marilyn enjoyed casual times with her friends playing Bridge.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. 

As Marilyn requested, cremation will be accorded.  A private committal service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
