The West Central Heat softball team was looking to garner its first sectional championship since 2022 last night in Alpha, Illinois. The Heat took on a very good Henry-Senachwine Lady Mallard ballclub that had only lost three games all season. The game was a classic fastpitch softball pitcher’s duel, scoreless through the first four innings. The Lady Mallards finally broke the ice with a pair of runs in the top of the 5th on a 2-out, 2-run double by Brynna Anderson. The Heat would respond in the bottom of the 5th with a 2-out run themselves. Addie Seitz single brought home Becca Hinshaw, who doubled with two outs. West Central would be held without a base-runner the rest of the way and would eventually fall 2-1. Miley Stimpson went all seven innings for the Heat, giving up five hits, two earned runs with nine strikeouts. Lauren Harbison was even better, giving up only four hits with 11 strikeouts. Harbison now has an amazing 270 strikeouts for the season. West Central ends the season at (31-7). Henry-Senachwine is now (25-3) and will play (23-5) Dakota in the Super-sectional game in Sterling on Monday afternoon.
