The American Legion Baseball Division 3 Tournament schedule has been released. Prior to 2020, teams around the Monmouth, Galesburg and Quad City areas held smaller District Tournaments, in which the winners would advance to the Division Tournaments. There was no Legion Baseball played in 2020 due to the covid-pandemic and some teams never came back from the shutdown, forcing the district tournaments to be scrapped and combining those towns that were still fielding teams into a larger division tournament.
The winner of the division tournaments around the state of Illinois move on to the state finals in Rantoul, starting on July 30th. The state champion will head to the Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Carol Stream, Illinois. The regional winners around the country will converge on Shelby, North Carolina for the 8-team American Legion World Series in mid-August.
As far as the 9-team Division 3 tournament this week, Galesburg Post 285 will play the winner of Peoria Post 2 and Annawan Post 727 on Wednesday night at 7:30. The double elimination tournament starts at 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon and will end on Saturday or Sunday, depending on whether an extra game will be necessary. All games will take place at Sherrard High School, home of Milan Post 569, with two fields being used all week. Galesburg will enter the postseason with an overall record of (19-6) and the top-seed in the tournament. Rock Island Post 200 is the #2 seed, followed by 3rd seeded Princeton Post 125 and 4th seeded Moline Post 246. Rock Island has won the last two division tournament titles and three of the last four.
