As students are heading back to school this week, Henderson County Sheriff Matt Link reminds motorists of the traffic laws in place and sharing the roadways with school buses to keep everyone safe this school year:

“When the lights come on, just go ahead and stop, slow way down, go ahead and stop. Those red lights come on, that stop arm comes out, if you go by, you are getting a ticket. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you are doing, if you are slowed down on your brakes and just happen to roll through, it is there for a reason. The safety of the children crossing the road, the bus driver and kids on the road, anything around, it is obviously there for a reason. Again, school buses are out, if the lights are on, they have a white strobe on top; sometimes there is sun in your eyes, but you know your way to work, you know where the buses stop, if you are traveling through, just be cautious. When those yellow lights come on, slow down way ahead of time, stop, and give that opportunity there to where nothing bad can happen.”

Additionally, Sheriff Link encourages reporting anything that may seem suspicious, whether the children share with a teacher or adults use the P3Tips app to submit for Henderson County, if you see something, say something to help keep the neighborhoods safe.
