Lincoln Land Small School foes Abingdon-Avon and United matched up on the gridiron last Friday at United High School. Both teams were still searching for their first win at (0-3). The game stayed close through the first half, with the Tornadoes holding a slim 20-12 lead at the break. However, Abingdon-Avon took control in the final two quarters, piling up 39 points and more than 200 rushing yards to pull away for a 59-30 victory. Quarterback Jamil Johnson had a monster performance, throwing for five touchdowns, adding three more on the ground and ran a kickoff back 75 yards for another score for an amazing nine total touchdowns on the night. The Tornadoes improve to (1-3), while United falls to (0-4). A-Town head coach Rick Quinn says it’s great to get that first win out of the way, but he knows his team will be tested this week.
The Tornadoes will travel to Princeville this Friday, looking to keep the winning streak going against a solid (3-1) Princes squad. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
