Another local high school student-athlete has announced where he will continue his sports career at the collegiate level. Recent United High School graduate, Avery Leffler, will play baseball and football at the University of Dubuque. Dubuque is a Division III school in Iowa. Leffler has the most career pitching victories and all-time leader in career Earned Run Average for the Red Storm baseball program. He had a chance to extend the victory record this spring but United’s promising season was cut-short by the IHSA’s decision to cancel the entire schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic. Leffler was coming off a junior season in which he was an All-Lincoln Trail Conference honoree. He will also try to be a long-snapper for the Dubuque Spartan football team. Leffler has long-snapped on the Red Storm football team since his freshman year at United. Dubuque was (25-16) in 2019 and was (4-5) this spring after returning home from their spring trip to Kentucky and Florida before the season was halted.
