The United Red Storm girls’ varsity basketball team finally got back on the court on Wednesday night after the winter break. Their last game was on December 15th at the United Holiday Tournament. Their opponent for the night was a familiar one, LTC rival Abingdon-Avon. The Tornadoes and Red Storm met in the first game of the season, with A-Town prevailing.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair between the two squads, after the first 8 minutes of play, the teams would be in a tie. The second quarter took much of the same pace, with both teams scoring at will. The first half would end with Abingdon-Avon holding on to a 3-point 28-25 advantage. The second half would tell a different tale, as the A-Town defense began to lock down and held the Red Storm to just one point in the 3rd quarter. With a 39-26 lead into the fourth, the Tornadoes began to do what they needed to do to close out the game, ultimately winning by the final score of 55-44.
In the stat-book for the Red Storm, Katie Flynn led the way with 21 points, while Alexa Anderson added 6. United gets a chance to rebound tomorrow night, when they host West Central. For the full replay of the WMOI broadcast, click HERE:
