She was born May 18, 1935, in Alexis, the daughter of Everett L. and Luva (Bair) Nelson.  She married Eugene H. Montgomery on July 25, 1954, in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on May 18, 2003 after nearly 49 years of marriage.

She is survived by a son, Michael L. Montgomery of Galesburg; a daughter, Melissa L. Montgomery of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Matthew, Shawn, Jason, Amber, Austin and Ryan Montgomery; six great grandchildren; a brother, Terry (Corrina) Nelson of Galesburg; and two sisters, JoAnn Folger of Galesburg and Lisa (Dennis) Ziegenhorn of Eureka, Illinois.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Luva and Mike Schumacher; her father; a son, Theodore Montgomery; a brother, Bud Nelson; and two sisters, Donna Briggs and Arlene Pitman.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953.  As Eugene’s career was with the Air Force, the family moved often in the first half of their marriage.  After settling back in Galesburg in 1971, Almina continued being a dedicated homemaker for her family.  As a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Almina had many roles there, including the Ladies Aid Group, Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and she taught in the pre-school for 20 years.  Almina was active with the American Legion Auxiliary as a lifetime member.

After moving to the Hitchcock Apartments 20 years ago, Almina enjoyed the company of the other residents there and enjoyed cooking for and hosting parties and dinners, along with her sister, JoAnn, for them.  Almina enjoyed playing Bingo.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  Funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev.
