Galesburg Police Warning of New TikTok Challenge

Share

A dangerous challenge spreading on TikTok and other social media platforms has car owners and police departments on alert across the country. The challenge involves young teens trying to steal certain vehicles off the street using a USB cord.

The challenge targets certain makes and models of 2010-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles that use a mechanical key, not a key fob and push-button to start the car.

Galesburg PD has received 16 stolen vehicle reports since Jan 1, 2023. Remember your best defense is to always lock your vehicle. If you witness an auto theft attempt, always report it.

1. Never leave your car running, even if you have your fob.

2. Always lock your car.

3. Never leave your keys in your car.
