Walk through the Monmouth Municipal Cemetery and watch local history come to life. The 3rd Annual Cemetery Walk, organized by the Buchanan Center for the Arts as part of their “Old Friends Talk Art” series, is coming up this fall. Here is Tom Best, explaining more about what the cemetery walk is all about.
“One of the things I wanted to remind people, that’s coming up this fall, is our 3rd Annual Cemetery Walk, that we’re doing with the Buchanan Center for the Arts. One of the people that we’re highlighting this year is President David Wallace, one of the founders of Monmouth College. It’s been very interesting doing all of this research, so we’ll have people, as we have done in the past, portray these individuals, we’ll walk through the cemetery, it’s last about an hour. This year, I’m kind of calling it “the movers and the shakers.” We’re up on the hill with Reverend Jamieson, David Wallace, and Robert Patton, who built the Patton Block, and other very notable individuals; and some interesting ones too. There’s a young man who was killed in a railroad accident, and there’s a description of the accident and life on the side of the stone. The event will be Wednesday, October 7th. There’ll be a program with “Old Friends Talk Art” in the morning at 10am, and then the tour with the actors will be that evening at 5pm.”
