Women finish 7th in team standings, men finish 8th

MONMOUTH, ILL. (02/19/2023) The Monmouth College men’s and women’s swimming seasons came to an end on Sunday at the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Grinnell College. The women’s team finished seventh while the men’s team placed eighth overall.

For the third day in a row, senior Jaidlyn Sellers (Tremont, Illinois) set a school record. On Sunday she finished ninth in the 200 backstroke, breaking the school record by nearly three seconds with a time of 2:11.85. Last year she briefly held the record in this event at 2:15.19 before teammate Brooke McCormick swam 2:14.20 at the MWC Championships. Sellers left no doubt after her performance on Sunday and now holds the school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, all set this weekend.

Sellers also teamed up with Mady Gaus (Herscher, Illinois), Nicole Fitch (Marengo, Illinois) and Lauren Fulscher (Moline, Illinois) to finish seventh in the 400 freestyle relay, the final event of the weekend.

The men’s best finish of the day came in the 400 medley relay. The team of Finn Van Dyke (Lawrence, Kansas), Camden Schmidt (Washington, Illinois), Ethan Main (Oneida, Illinois) and Tristan Kennon (Flossmoor, Illinois) finished sixth. Brady Hild (Tremont, Illinois) had the best individual finish of the day with a 10th place finish in the 1650 freestyle relay in 19:45.09

The women’s team finished seventh with 191 points, one point behind Beloit College. The men finished eighth overall with 144 points. Grinnell won both conference titles with 863.5 points for their women’s team and 975 for the men.
