Mrs. Lois Jean West, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 1:42 pm Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Lois was born October 7, 1932, in Galesburg, the daughter of Cecil and Hazel (Lane) Kilpatrick. She married the love of her life, Bobby J. West on October 23, 1948, in Piggott, Arkansas. Together they shared 73 years until his passing on July 23, 2022.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Dennis (Cheryl) West of Petersburg, Illinois, David West of Galesburg and Jeanie (Nick) Aldrich of Paducah, Kentucky; her sister, Ida Johnson of Dixon, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren with one on the way due in May. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sons, Dale and Donald West, her brother, Johnny and three sisters, Doris Admire, Shirley Batson and Alberta Vallero.
Lois attended Abingdon Schools and earned her nursing degree from Carl Sandburg College. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for the former Galesburg Research Hospital, the San Francisco Burn Unit and St. Mary Medical Center. Lois was a faithful servant and was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. Lois was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 pm Friday, March 31, 2023 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 pm Friday at the Abingdon Cemetery with her son-in-law, Nick Aldrich officiating. A time of fellowship will continue at Harley’s Reception Hall, 2243 Grand Avenue, Galesburg, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the OSF Hospice or to the Apostolic Tabernacle Church, Galesburg.
