Cheryl G. Kinney, age 84, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 12:40 pm on Friday June 23, 2023 at Monmouth Nursing Home. Cheryl was born on April 16, 1939 and is the daughter of Gerald and Gwen McGaughy Fisher. She attended Goodwell Country School, Aledo Elementary School and graduated from Aledo High School in 1957. After High School she attended Tobe’ Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City, New York. When she returned home she worked in retail at VonMaur department store in the Quad Cities and Bowman Colwell department store in Monmouth and Parolee’s Apparel, also in Monmouth. On November 4, 1961 she married J. Howard Kinney at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Cheryl and Howard celebrated 50 years of marriage in November 2011. Howard preceded her in death in December of 2011. Cheryl spent her early years at home raising her three children. Later she sold Queen’s Way clothing and owned and operated House of Yore antique store with food friends, Kathy Miller and Kate Louck. Cheryl loved entertaining friends and family at her home in Monmouth and also at her cabin at Lake Warren. She was active in the Aledo ” Dragon Ladies ” couples card group friends and enjoyed her ladies coffee group in Monmouth attending community events and traveling to Arizona. Cheryl is best know for her boundless energy and “go-getter” personality.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter Kimberly Horner and Chris of Birmingham, Alabama; sons, John Kinney and Angie of Cantrall, Illinois and Jeff Kinney and Christy of Winston, Georgia. There are eight grandchildren, Kelsey Fredericks, Kaitlyn Ottinger, Carley Horner, Drew, Hannah, and Hallie Kinney, Wyatt and Weston Kinney and nine great grandchildren, and thirteen nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother, Bill Fisher and Cathy of rural Kirkwood, two sisters in laws, Marian Hand and Melba Rogoway and Bill.

She is preceded in her death by her parents, her sister, Colleen Kinney, three brothers in law, Gerald Kinney, Harold Kinney,. and George Hand. Also her sister in law Ruth Kinney precedes.

A funeral service for Cheryl is planned on Saturday July 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans visitation and will receive friends at Turnbull Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery next to her husband, Howard. A memorial fund has been established for Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth, Illinois.
