Illinois Lawmaker Introducing Bill to Protect College Athletes

Share

A Chicago lawmaker is working on legislation to further protect college athletes. The bill was already in the works when new details about hazing and sexual abuse allegations within the Northwestern University football program emerged. It’s called the College Athlete’s Bill of Rights says Representative Kam Buckner.

“The legislation that we are working on now does a lot for gender equity and educational benefits. After what we heard this weekend regarding these allegations, we wanted to pause and come back and see that there are things we can add that can protect student athletes in these situations.”

Buckner notes that hazing is already illegal in Illinois, but says there might be additional protections that can be added to the law.
