Rev. Frederick E. Larner, 90 of Galesburg, died at 5:07 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Knox County Nursing Home.

He was born Saturday, November 26, 1932, in Monmouth, the son of Frederick and Lillie (Black) Larner Sr. They preceded him in death along with an infant sister.

After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1950, he went on to graduate from Knox College. He attended and graduated from Augustana Seminary in Rock Island. Rev. Larner was a minister in the Lutheran Church, where he served in Tower, Minnesota for 38 years and in Sterling, Illinois for a few years before returning to Galesburg in the late 1990s. In Galesburg, he served for a time as the associate pastor of First Lutheran Church. He currently was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

Frederick was a great lover of classical and church music. He enjoyed listening to his classical record collection and attended many concerts where it was performed. Organ music was a particular passion. He was a member of several choirs over the years and had a great tenor voice.

Frederick enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and stayed in Minnesota for so long so he could enjoy the North Woods and its wildlife.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Steven Sommerer will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is honored to handle Rev. Larner’s arrangements. Online condolences may be made on the funeral home website at www.h-p-w.com.

Memorials can be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
