Dwight E. Loy, 90, of LaSalle, IL, formerly of Roseville, IL, passed away at 4:15 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home of LaSalle. Dwight Eldon Loy was born March 15, 1933 in Good Hope, Illinois. The youngest of eight children, Dwight was a very good athlete. He set school records in the half mile and went on to letter in track and cross country at Western Illinois University.

After two years of college, he was drafted into the Army. This was near the end of the Korean conflict, and he was stationed in Germany. While in the Army, he received The National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and Expert Marksman Medal.

During his service he corresponded with Ethel Hobbs who was an acquaintance of his sister. After returning from the Army, he met Ethel in person for the very first time and they were engaged within weeks. They were married October 1, 1955. They farmed together in the Youngstown and Swan Creek areas for many years. Dwight loved hunting and just being in the outdoors.

Dwight majored in art in college and was a very talented artist. He was able to take up oil painting once again in the Illinois Veteran’s Home and enjoyed that very much. While in the home He painted over 20 pictures.

He was a member of the Walnut Grove Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and the American Legion.

Dwight loved Jesus, family and his Country. Soft spoken and yet strong in spirit, he will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Dan (Laurie) Loy, daughter Mona Lisa (David) Huston; grandchildren, Dustin (Duan) Loy, Zach (Katie) Loy, Cara (Colin) Hageman, Tanna (Luke) Towry, and Sean Huston; great-grandchildren, Drew, Scarlett and Henry Towry, Reason and Pippa Loy, Charlie and JoJo Loy, Levi and Owen Huston, Blair Rose Hageman, and brother and sister-in-law Marvin (Bud) and Deb Hobbs. Numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored.

Dwight was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethel, his parents, four sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5:00p.m.-7:30p.m. Friday, September 29th at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the Walnut Grove Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30th. Interment will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope, IL. Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Methodist Church or the Illinois Veteran’s Home of LaSalle.
