Mr. Harold Glennard Arnold, 84, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 12:16 am, Saturday September 16, 2023, at his home with his children by his side.

Harold was born November 22, 1938, in Decatur, Illinois the son of Donald Lawrence and Thurma Kathyrn (Wheeler) Arnold. He married Carol Jean Benton in 1963. He later married Carol D. Abbott-Leary on April 17, 1993, in Gerlaw, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2008.

Harold is survived by his children, Lynda Kay (Larry) Brettin of Mattoon, Illinois, William Todd (Dera) Arnold of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Donald Wayne (Tracey) Arnold of Olympia, Washington and Angela Joelle (Don, Sr.) Lovell of Charleston, Illinois; his sister Kay (Bill) Sidwell of Decatur; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his two longtime friends, Jesse and Joetta Fischer. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Donald Lee Arnold.

Harold graduated from Maroa Forsyth High School in 1956 where he played on the Trojan championship football team. In high school, he also enjoyed playing baseball and declined a college scholarship to enlist in the US Navy. He served in the Navy for three years, from 1956-1959.

Harold worked for the United States Postal Service in several locations including: Decatur, Westville, Sullivan, Rochester (Minnesota), Monmouth and retired as postmaster in Oquawka in 2003.

Harold took pride in his involvement as a Mason, achieving 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He never lost his love for sports. He loved to follow the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed watching racing.

Visitation is scheduled for Noon-1:00 pm Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Hinchlifff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm at the chapel with his friend, Rev. Donald Reynolds officiating. The burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Knox County Honor Guard. Memorials may be offered to the Knox County Honor Guard.
