Larry D. Skinner, 80, of Abingdon, died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 13, 1943, at the former Galesburg Cottage Hospital, the son of Floyd and Melba L. (Peck) Skinner. He married Judith A. Ray on June 25, 1965 at the Abingdon Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Judy; a son, James (Sheryl) Skinner of Galesburg; a daughter, Tricia (Kenneth) Litchfield of Abingdon; and two grandchildren, Dean Skinner of Denver, Colorado and Anna Skinner of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry was self-employed as a real estate appraiser owning and operating Skinner Appraisals for many years. He had also farmed for several years. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1961 and Bradley University in 1968. He also took many classes for his appraisal certification.

Larry was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting of all kinds and was an avid reader, consuming 2 to 3 books per week.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Abingdon. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, in the Abingdon Cemetery with Rev. Linda Mowrer officiating. Memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be made to the Abingdon-Avon Public Schools Foundation, the Abingdon Christian Church, or the Knox County Humane Society.
