Employment at the Warren County Jail is stable and steady, as the population in the jail has declined significantly, which Sheriff Martin Edwards informs is partly due to the SAFE-T Act:
“We are starting to see some of what this act has forced us to do and I think all of in the law enforcement community are still trying to get our heads around how this works. Of course, we are working closely with the State’s Attorney to make sure we are in compliance with this new law out there too, but that is not an automatic that you will get let go on some cases. If you have a domestic violence incident or if you are a continuing danger to yourself or others, you will be brought into the jail and held. It is kind of an all or nothing thing, there is no bond anymore, so you might sit there for a longer period of time that you would have normally.”
The SAFE-T Act in Illinois took effect September 18th.
