Emergencies can happen when we least expect them, but a little preparation can make all the difference. This Emergency Preparedness Month, offers the perfect reminder to build your emergency kit, according to Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link:
“For that emergency kit, you really should make sure that you have set aside some water, they recommend a gallon per person, per day. Make sure you have food supplies stashed for at least up to two weeks, you should have a can opener, medications if you can do that, it is great, but even just over the counter fever and pain reducers, antacid. Any kind of personal care items, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. Cleaning supplies, make sure you have those set aside. A good flashlight that you can depend on, and a battery powered or solar powered radio. Extra clothing and always a first aid kit. Then any copies of any important documents that you may need to grab quickly and go.”
Being prepared is an ongoing process. Use the six pillars as a guide to help stay ready before, during, and after an emergency: stay informed, make a plan, build a kit, get involved, learn a skill, and know emergency information.
