September is Emergency Preparedness Month, and the Warren County Health Department is reminding local residents to make sure they are prepared before an emergency happens.
Health Department Administrator Jenna Link says one of the biggest steps is having an emergency kit ready to go.
“For that emergency kit, you really should make sure that you have set aside some water, they recommend a gallon per person, per day. Make sure you have food supplies stashed for at least up to two weeks, you should have a can opener, medications if you can do that, it is great, but even just over the counter fever and pain reducers, antacid. Any kind of personal care items, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. Cleaning supplies, make sure you have those set aside. A good flashlight that you can depend on, and a battery powered or solar powered radio. Extra clothing and always a first aid kit. Then any copies of any important documents that you may need to grab quickly and go.”
Link says being prepared is an ongoing process and encourages residents to stay informed, make a plan, build a kit, and know where to find emergency information.
