Sue Belle Vitali, 91, of Galesburg, died at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, in Seminary Manor.

She was born September 8, 1932, in LaPlata, Missouri, the daughter of Harry M. and Nannie B. (Slaughter) Tuggle. She married Louis P. Vitali on her birthday, September 8, 1951, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2013, after over 62 years of marriage.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy S. (Jeff) Webber of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Robby (Jody) Vitali, Kristina Vitali, Kristy Webber, Jason (Brooke) Webber, and Zach Webber; and six great grandchildren, Bell, Myli, Olivia, Khloe, Landyn, and Avery. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Louis S. Vitali on October 8, 2002; and two brothers, Bill Tuggle and Harry Tuggle.

Sue was raised and educated in LaPlata, where she graduated from high school in 1950. After moving to Galesburg, Sue worked as a clerk for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years. She retired August 31, 1994.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church where she had served on the Board of Deacons, the Board of Ushers, and the Flower Committee. Sue enjoyed traveling and together with Louis, they visited such places as Italy, Hawaii, Florida, and Las Vegas.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the chapel with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating. Burial will be with Louis in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023. Memorial contributions in Sue’s name may be made to First Baptist Church or the Knox County Humane Society. Online condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
