With the 2023 harvest season in the rear-view window, farmers are locking in their 2024 planting decisions. As farmers get their seed orders in, Bayer Crop Science Technical Agronomist Lance Tarchionne shares some disease considerations for farmers in western Illinois.
“This year was a year where certain diseases were prevalent. In some cases, in soybeans, we saw white mold and we saw sudden death syndrome. We saw some crown rot in corn,” said Tarchionne. “So, those are probably three diseases that are top of mind for growers. They are asking, ‘can I plant something to prevent those diseases? Or do I need a fungicide to prevent those diseases?’”
Other disease considerations when making seed decisions include soybean cyst nematodes for soybean plants and tar spot for corn.
