Robert E. “Gene” Wall, Sr.,78, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 2:28 pm, Monday, January 29, 2024 at the Allure of Lake Storey, Galesburg, IL.

Gene was born April 21, 1945 in Macomb, IL the son of Alvin and Sadie (Hoover) Wall.  He was raised and educated in the Webster and Fountain Green areas in Hancock County, IL.

Gene served 8 years with the United States Army stationed in Vietnam earning the rank of Sargent. 

Gene married Connie Murfin on July 17, 1965 in Carthage, IL.

Gene worked as a mechanic, truck driver, construction, worked at Haeger Pottery in Macomb and farmed.  As Gene would say he was a “jack of all trades and a master of none”.  

He was a member of the React Club.  He enjoyed watching westerns, smoking cigarettes, woodworking, being outdoors and watching the neighbors. 

Survivors include his children, Kim (Rodney) Kelso of Roseville, IL, Bob (Gypsy) Wall Jr. of Deland, FL and Nicky (Jason) Lybarger of Monmouth; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Janet Bundy of Macomb, Dorothy (Harry) Green of Colchester, IL, Donnie (Nellie) Wall of Iowa, Donna (Mike) Danielson of Colchester and Ann Thomas of Pensacola, Fl; sister-in-law, Barb Wall of Wayland, MO; several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin Wall, John Wall, Jack Wall and infant brother, Roger Wall; his sister, Sandy Ussery.

Cremation has been accorded. A private family celebration will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the funeral home to assist his family in offsetting his funeral expenses.
