Alan Richard Kimpel, 65, of Abingdon, Illinois, died peacefully at home with his wife by his side after a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024.

Alan was born on August 14, 1958 in Dixon, Illinois the son of Richard Allen and Nancy Jean (Bardell) Kimpel.

On September 20, 2019 Alan married Ruth Ann Smith in Sevierville, Tennessee. She survives as well as two brothers, Steve (Kristin) Kimpel of Polo, Illinois and Brian (Jean) Kimpel of Freeport, Illinois; and two sisters, Lori (Jerry) King of Leaf River, Illinois and Lisa (George) Landherr of Lanark, Illinois. Alan was preceded in death by his parents.

Alan enjoyed many years working as an over the road truck driver, last working for Taylor Truck Lines, prior to retiring in 2020. In his free time, Alan enjoyed watching football and racing on television, especially NASCAR and NHRA Drag Racing. Alan also leaves behind his two dogs whom he adored, Emma and Spunk.

Alan’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made in Alan’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
