Christa M. Waller, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 10:28 pm on Wednesday February 7, 2024 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Christa was born on November 4, 1936 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Ernest John and Dorothy Bertram Bellis. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended public schools and graduated from Monmouth High School with the class of 1954. She later attended Monmouth College. Christa married William G. Waller on November 28, 1959 in Monmouth and he preceded her in her death on June 12, 2007. Christa first worked at Brown Lynch and Scott department store and later at Spurgeons. She then became a cashier, and worked in the deli at Kroger Foods, then Giant Foods, and lastly Econo Foods, all in Monmouth. Christa also was teachers aide and an art presenter at Lincoln elementary for a time, and a den mother for her son, Kristen. She served on the District 38 School Board for a number of years and she and Bill were active members of First Lutheran Church of Monmouth,  Christa was a very active member and supporter of the American Legion Auxiliary and participated in many of the Legion’s events. She and Bill received the Ageless Achiever Award and also were recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Christa and her sister enjoyed going to meet with the J W Club for many years. She and her husband, Bill, also were avid bowlers and loved to go bowling together.

Surviving her is one son, Kristen W. Waller and Diane of Galesburg, Illinois, three nieces, Tracey Hall of Roseville, IL; Lacey Elliott and Brooke Elliott, both of Monmouth, IL, two nephews, Derek Atherton and Beth of Athens, Ohio and Brandon Elliott of Monmouth, Illinois. Christa’s sister survives, Jill DePue and Robert of Athens, OH and three brothers, John Bellis of Sun City Center, Florida, John Elliott of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Brian Elliott of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in her death by her parents, step mom, Judy Bellis, and husband, Bill, her sister, Kathleen, and one niece, Carey Atherton 

A funeral service for Christa Waller is planned on Friday February 16, 2024 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans visitation at Turnbulls for the hour prior to the funeral from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery with fellowship at the Marion B Fletcher post to follow. A memorial fund has been established for the American Legion Auxiliary.
