Mr. Delbert Lee Smith, 75, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away at his home at 6:57 pm, Tuesday February 20, 2024.

He was born October 27, 1948, in Abingdon, the son of Claude and Demma (Gifford) Smith. He married Betty M. McClure on June 27, 1970, in Henderson, Illinois, she preceded him in death in 2005. He later married Alice George-Williamson on October 22, 2018, in Galesburg. She also preceded him in death.

Delbert is survived by his children, Mark Smith of California, Christopher Smith of Galesburg, Matthew B. Smith of Kewanee, Illinois, Scott E. (Kathleen) Smith and Andrew (Rebecca) Smith both of Galesburg; his brother, Marty (Rita) Smith of North Pekin, Illinois; two sisters, Mary (Ed) DeJaynes of Galesburg and Sharon Fauber of Spring Bay, Illinois and six grandchildren, Chloe, Betty, Nichole, Kevin, Darrin and Kyle. He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, four brothers, Bill, Gerald, Harold and Carol Jean and one sister, Charlotte Mirrors.

Delbert was raised and attended Abingdon schools, he worked for the former Abingdon Pottery, Briggs Manufacturing, the Wareco station in Abingdon and later the former Mark Young Filter Service, now Mid-State Manufacturing.

Delbert loved tinkering around his home and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to all the holidays when his family could all be together. Delbert had a love for watching western movies, fishing and listening to country music. He would spend time at Gordon Behrendt’s Senior Center with his wife Betty when she attended. Delbert was a member of the New Life Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from Noon-1:00 pm Friday, February 23, 2024, at the New Life Baptist Church. Services will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Pastor Darrell Grimm officiating. The burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services to help offset the funeral expense.
