The Monmouth-Roseville titans wrestling team traveled to Knoxville for regionals on Saturday. Ten titans went to represent the school with hopes set on a regional championship. Out of the ten wrestlers 9 placed and will advance to sectionals at Olympia next Friday and Saturday to represent Monmouth-Roseville. At 215 pounds Sailas Cung went 1-2 on the day with one win by pinfall. At 138 pounds Gybanhi Mendoza Velverde placed fourth going two and two on the day with both wins coming by pinfall. At 285 pounds Gavin bell placed 4th going 1 -2 on the day with his win coming by pinfall. At 132 pounds Alejandro Morales placed 3rd going 3-1 on the day with all three wins by pinfall. At 157 pounds Gabe Ortiz-Mora placed 3rd going 3-1 on the day with all three wins coming by pinfall. At 165 pounds Moises Martinez placed 3rd going 3-1 on the day with two wins by pinfall and one by decision with a score of 9-4. At 126 pounds Liam Spears placed 2nd going 1-1 on the day with his win by pinfall. At 190 pounds Alex Gandarilla placed 2nd going 1-1 on the day with his pin by way of pinfall. At 106 pounds Bawi Thang is a regional champion placing first going 2-0 on the day with both wins by pinfall. At 175 pounds Landon Montroy is a regional champion placing first and going 2-0 on the day with both wins by pinfall. With 11 teams including Peoria Heights, Rowva, Peoria Manual, IVC, United, Illini Bluffs, Knoxville, Farmington, Mercer County and Peoria Notre Dame. The titans went in with the goal of regionals champs knowing they were only filling 10 out if the 14 weights and placing two alternates at 4th place three 3rd places two 2nds and two regional champs the titans fell just short placing second as a team with 145 points behind Peoria Notre Dame scoring 177. The titans will get back to work this week in preparation for sectionals at Olympia Friday and Saturday.
