Rodney “Rod” J. Motz, 64, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at his home.

Rodney was born on April 13, 1959 in Galesburg. He was the son of Donald and Alvaree (Dutton) Motz. He married Catherine Fahlund at Grace Lutheran Church in 1986. Surviving Rodney are his daughter, Mallory (Robert Pfeffer) Motz of Dahinda; siblings, Daniel (Lisa) Motz of Knoxville, Linda Sue (Jack) Swanson of Kentucky, Donald “Gus” (Toni) Motz of Wataga and Jason (Jackie) Motz of Wataga; grandchildren Weston and Saige that he thought the world of and they loved him so much; several nieces and nephews; his good friends, Bill Crawford, Jim Lamb and Tiny. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Travis Swanson and uncles, Johnny Joe Motz and Charlie Motz.

Rodney was a “Jack of All Trades,” who worked in Track Maintenance for Burlington Northern and as a private salvage specialist. He also worked in lawn care and tree trimming. Rodney was an avid fan of NASCAR, loved going to car shows and the Rutledge Flea Market. He participated in demolition derbies when he was younger. Rodney mostly enjoyed his time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the Wataga Cemetery. Rev. Gary Bryan will officiant. A celebration of life will follow services starting at 2PM at Motzee’s in Wataga. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements.
