With spring right around the corner and temperatures rising, more people will be out and about. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds of the dangers on distracted driving:
“Keep the cell phones down. A lot of cars nowadays your phone will Bluetooth to your car, it is easier that way, you are suppose to be hands free. Don’t read text messages, try to make calls, or anything else on the phone while you are driving, that does distract you. That brief moment you look down at your phone, depending on how fast you are traveling, you could have gone 100 feet or 200 feet, somebody could have stepped out in front of you or off the curb. That moment in time is the dangerous part.”
Additionally, make sure you and any passengers in the vehicle are wearing a seatbelt, be aware of other drivers on the roadway, make a safe driving plan, and secure any cargo that may be in the vehicle.
