Fred A. Leath, age 90, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:34 AM on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Monmouth Nursing Home. He was born July 18, 1933 in Macon, Missouri, the son of James Everett and Vurgil Ruth (Shafer) Leath. At the age of ten, Fred and his family moved to the Cameron, Illinois area, and Fred attended school both in Missouri and here in Monmouth.

Fred was employed many years as a farm hand. He worked for many years at Cameron Grain Corporation, doing grain and fertilizer work until his retirement. Fred was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, woodworking, and later in life, Fred enjoyed baking and giving away his homemade goodies.

Fred is survived by one sister, Margie Borcky of Monmouth, Illinois, and one brother, Jim (Edna) Leath of Cameron, Illinois. Also surviving Fred are many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, four brothers, and his special friend, Barb Braden.

As were Fred’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A memorial service for Fred Leath is planned for 10:30 AM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service. Memorials are being established for First Christian Church or Jamieson Community Center, both of Monmouth.
