Jack L. Henshaw, age 82, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 9, 2024 at his rural Oquawka residence. Known to his family as “slap happy pappy” Jack was born on January 27, 1942 in Oquawka and is the son of Harold W. and Velma M. Simpson Henshaw. Jack was raised in Oquawka where he attended local schools and G&O High School. Jack was previously married to Dorothy Lynne Stevenson. He later lived with his significant other, Roberta for some twenty years before her death. Jack first worked with his father at the sawmill in Oquawka, IL for a number years. Jack became the Village Superintendent for the Village of Oquawka which he was for forty years before his retirement. After his retirement Jack raised and sold Livestock, cattle and hogs, locally. He loved his garden and grew and sold produce locally for many years. His greatest love was his family and grandchildren. 

He is survived by three daughters, Jacque Worden and Lewis of Burlington, Iowa, Becky Tee and Bryan of Oquawka, Illinois, and Stacey Henshaw and Jason of Seaton, Illinois. There are two sons surviving, Harold Henshaw and Deanna of Oquawka, Illinois and Steven Henshaw also of Oquawka, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren surviving, Julie Jern, Jennifer Currier, Dylan Tee, Austin Grafton, Taylor Grafton, Jamie Henshaw, and Skylar Koph. Jack’s sisters survive, Joyce Jones and Nancy Henshaw of Oquawka, Illinois, and his brothers, Allen of Keithsburg and Jay of Oquawka, Illinois. Jack is preceded in his death by his parents, his sister Dixie, and his significant other, Roberta.

A funeral service for Jack is planned on Saturday March 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family plans to be at the funeral home and receive their friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Oquawka Cemetery.
